The 16th Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Exchanges Forum was held

The 16th Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Exchanges Forum (Forum) was held online on October 11th, 2022. A total of 106 representatives from 20 exchanges, 7 clearing, settlement and custody institutions and 9 sectoral institutions attended the meeting that was hosted by Borsa İstanbul.

Speaking at the opening session, Selçuk Koç, Deputy General Manager at the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) Coordination Office said: “The OIC Exchanges Forum carries out important work. As the COMCEC Coordination Office, we have given all the support to the Forum and we will continue to do so in the future.” He conveyed his wishes for a productive Forum meeting for all participants.

Also speaking at the opening session, Borsa İstanbul CEO and Board Member Dr. Korkmaz Ergun thanked the participants and said: “We have made significant progress in the projects we have carried out since our last meeting. We have prepared a comprehensive Forum program that we hope will lead to new ideas and actions regarding our cooperation. We invite all OIC exchanges, clearing and custody institutions to continue working with determination on our joint projects.”

Forum keynote speaker, Dr. Bello Lawal Danbatta, Secretary General of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), conveyed his remarks on the future of Islamic capital markets and capital market products that are likely to come to the markets-. In the meeting, Borsa İstanbul, Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX), Ziraat Portfolio Management and Pakistan Stock Exchange made presentations on various subjects.

As part of the Forum, an academic conference titled “Sustainability and Islamic Finance in OIC Countries” was held on October 12th, 2022. Prof. Ali M. Kutan, faculty member of the Department of Economics and Finance at Southern Illinois University and the editor of Borsa Istanbul Review academic journal, moderated the conference. Academicians from different countries and universities presented their articles about the subject. The five selected articles will be published in Borsa İstanbul Review - OIC Exchanges Forum Special Issue. Borsa istanbul Review is an SSCI indexed international academic journal with a very high impact factor, ranking among the top 25% in the world.

About the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Exchanges Forum:

The OIC Exchanges Forum was established in 2005 through the initiatives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) in order to strengthen cooperation and encourage the transfer of knowledge and experience among the exchanges of OIC member states. Borsa İstanbul acts as the secretariat on behalf of the Forum. Forum meetings bring together OIC exchanges, clearing and custody institutions and other relevant OIC institutions (IsDB, AAOFI, IIFM, IFSB, SESRIC etc.) every year.
