The United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative, of which Borsa İstanbul is one of the founding members, launched SSE Derivative Exchanges Network to expand sustainability efforts in the field of derivatives products.  Borsa İstanbul becomes one of the founders of this initiative, along with other leading derivatives exchanges and stock exchanges operating derivatives markets. The founding partners involve derivatives exchanges as well as securities exchanges with a derivatives market.

The founding members of the SSE Derivatives Network are as follows: Borsa İstanbul (Turkey), Bursa Malaysia (Malaysia), CBOE Global Markets (USA, derivatives), CME Group (USA, derivatives), Deutsche Börse AG / Eurex (Germany, derivatives), Matba Rofex (Argentina, derivatives), MexDer (BMV Group) (Mexico, derivatives), NZX Limited (New Zealand), the Singapore Exchange (Singapore), ICE (USA) and the TMX Group /Montreal Exchange (Canada, derivatives).

Regarding the launch of the network, James Zhan, Chair of the UN SSE said: "We are proud today to be welcoming derivatives exchanges as members of the SSE. Since the SSE was launched over a decade ago, sustainable finance has expanded to all corners of the marketplace.  All forms of finance will be needed to help us with the historical transition to a net zero emissions world and to achieve the globally agreed sustainable development goals.  We welcome the enthusiasm of derivatives exchanges to contribute to some of the world’s most challenging issues and we look forward to working with this community to promote best practices for sustainable development.”

Korkmaz Ergun, the CEO of Borsa İstanbul made the following remarks: “Derivatives products become increasingly significant in Turkey as well as around the world. I firmly believe that sustainability should assume a fundamental role in this expanding product category. I would like to express my thanks to the SSE executives for their decision to include derivatives exchanges in the Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative. As Borsa İstanbul, we have already been participating in the working groups within the SSE. From now on, we will provide support to the derivatives side of the initiative.

About the Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) Initiative

The SSE initiative is a UN Partnership Programme organised by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the UN Global Compact, UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). The SSE’s mission is to provide a global platform for exploring how exchanges, in collaboration with investors, companies (issuers), regulators, policymakers and relevant international organizations, can enhance performance on ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) issues and encourage sustainable investment, including the financing of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
