PRI Workshop and ESG Integration Programme Held in Partnership with Borsa İstanbul

In partnership with Borsa Istanbul, a founding member of the SSE initiative partner exchange since 2012, PRI workshop was held for 75 local market participants on the PRI methodology and ESG integration and best practices dedicated to emerging market by the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), the Turkish Institutional Investment Managers’ Association (TKYD) and Emerging Markets for Responsible Investing (EMRI) on April 3, 2019 at Borsa İstanbul.

Borsa İstanbul Executive Vice President Mehmet Gönen delivered welcoming speech by stating that the bourse values such trainings and knowledge sharing gatherings greatly. He said “As a stock exchange, we are uniquely positioned to continue playing an active role in raising awareness on issues such as Responsible Investment and Sustainable Development. We follow developments closely and play a key role in educating and informing local market participants as well as our own staff on key trends and ESG data. Often, we do this in collaboration with key organizations such as those gathered today. Recently, in Geneva we were awarded from the Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative as a ground-breaking stock exchange. We are truly honored for this distinguished mention and will continue efforts to uphold our commitment and dedication to this important initiative”.

Following a welcoming speech, the keynote addresses were given by Sir Mark-Moody Stuart, Chairperson of the Foundation for the Global Compact, Prof. Güler Aras, Chairperson of the IIRC Turkey (ERTA) with additional presentations delivered by the TUYID and EMRI.

The event closed with an executive panel discussion moderated by EMRI on ESG implementation in Emerging Markets like Turkey which included corporate speakers such as Mr. Barış Onan, CFO of the Sabancı Holding and Mr. Selim Yazıcı, CEO of TEB Asset Management (BNP Paribas JV) and Chairperson, TKYD which generously supported the by-invitation event.
