Listing of T-Bills and Bonds in Borsa İstanbul Received Green Light from Bosnia
4/29/2015
Borsa İstanbul was in Sarajevo between April 16th and 17th in order to meet with the most liquid companies listed in the Sarajevo Stock Exchange (SASE). As part of the program agenda, Mr. Adnan Serhat Görgün, Borsa İstanbul’s Director of Marketing and Sales and Mr. Mehmet Gönen, General Manager of Ziraat Investment, the investment branch of Turkey’s largest government-owned bank gathered with the Bosnian companies at SASE headquarters.

The main topics of discussion were the possibility of enabling capital resources access to Bosnian companies through Borsa İstanbul’s debt securities and equity markets, as well as listing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s T-bills in the Turkish bond market, where the annual turnover of bonds reached USD 3,493 billion (8th highest bond traded value in the World) with an average daily turnover of USD 14.9 billion in Q4 2014.

At the meeting, which was also attended by officials from the Bosnian Treasury, both Mr. Görgün and Mr. Gönen delivered presentations providing detailed information in regards to the listing and IPO process in Borsa İstanbul. In his presentation, Mr. Görgün stated that: “One of the ways of financing companies is through the issuance of corporate bonds. Turkish market is very liquid, and most importantly, our market is a regional hub for international investors, which would also increase interest in Bosnian companies among the international investment community. We believe this is crucial for Bosnian companies to reach beyond their national borders and get interconnected to the global financial system”.

Bosnia and Herzegovina plans to borrow KM 430 million in 2015, which is composed of KM 320 million worth of T-bills and bonds valued at KM 110 million. At the event, participants commented that these could be sold in Borsa İstanbul at an agreed interest rate. The event concluded with high remarks. Before the conclusion of the event, it was agreed that Borsa İstanbul would share information about the costs, duration and marketing of both government and corporate bonds to Bosnian Treasury, SASE officials and interested companies.
