
Further the merger of İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsası (İstanbul Stock Exchange) with Turkish Derivatives Exchange and İstanbul Gold Exchange in 2013, international memberships of former institutions were transferred to Borsa İstanbul. Following the renewal process, Borsa İstanbul became a member of Association of Futures Markets (AFM), Futures Industry Association (FIA), World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and London Bullion Market Association (LBMA). With these memberships, Borsa İstanbul aims to establish and strengthen relations of its derivatives market with other key players in the world and to develop cooperation and business relations with diamond bourses and other institutions having transactions in precious metals.
Association of Futures Markets (AFM)
AFM is a not-for-profit association formally established in 1998 by 10 members. The prime objective of the Association is to promote and encourage the establishment of new derivative and related markets and to organize international conferences in order to promote communication among members, to strengthen their relationship and to transfer information and experience among them. As of July 2014, Borsa İstanbul is one of the 24 full members. www.afmorg.net
Futures Industry Association (FIA)
FIA was originally founded in 1955 in New York as the Association of Commodity Exchange Firms. It was initially established to provide a forum to discuss issues, work with exchanges, represent the public customer, study ways to reduce costs, eliminate the abuse of credit, cooperate on educational efforts and protect firms from fraudulent warehouse receipts. The association broadened its reach in the mid-1980s when international organizations were invited to become members. As of July 2014, Borsa İstanbul is one of the 251 associate members. www.futuresindustry.org
World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB)
Having its headquarters in Antwerp, Belgium, WFDB is an association of diamond bourses established in 1947 to promote ethic rules and practices in diamond markets. The object of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses is to protect the interests of affiliated bourses and their individual members, and to further the amicable settlement or arbitration of differences and disputes between the individual members of the affiliated bourses and between the affiliated bourses. In furtherance of this object, it is the aim of the world federation to participate in the promotion of world trade and to encourage the establishment of bourses, with the view of eventual affiliation of all centers where diamonds are actively traded. London Bullion Market Association (LBMA)
The LBMA is the international trade association that represents the wholesale over-the-counter market for gold and silver bullion. The LBMA undertakes many activities on behalf of its members, including the setting of good delivery and refining standards, the organisation of conferences and other events, and serving as a point of contact for the regulatory authorities. LBMA has currently 76 Members and 71 Associates from 30 countries. Borsa İstanbul is an Associate member of LBMA. www.lbma.org.uk
