A national cooperative bank serving the agriculture industry in North America, CoBank delegation of twenty persons, including former Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John R. Baird, paid a visit to Borsa İstanbul on October 22, 2015. The delegation was informed with a detailed presentation on the spot and futures markets for Turkish agricultural products, licensed warehousing and electronic warehouse receipts. Borsa İstanbul team also showed the delegation around the trading floor.
Borsa İstanbul Head of Derivatives Market Mr. Muammer Çakır delivered a presentation about VIOP. In his representation, Mr. Çakır informed the delegation about the firsts in VIOP, all-time-highs in trade volume and open interest, their efforts to increase the trade volume in VIOP, and also shared information about central counterparty and risk management. Mr. Çakır gave detailed information about the mechanism of Durum and Anatolian Red Wheat Future contracts with physical delivery settlement, expected to be introduced for trading soon.
Konya Commodity Exchange Chairman Mr. Hüseyin Çevik and Secretary General Mr. Esat Bilici informed the delegation about their efforts to improve the Turkish agricultural production and trade; the electronic trading platform, licensed warehousing system and the markets trading electronic warehouse receipts. A Q&A session was held at the end of the visit.
