The meeting, held at the Turkish Capital Markets Association on June 30^th, 2015, attracted top executives from energy companies and intermediary institutions and discussed potential areas of cooperation, the recently increasing liquidity in the VIOP base load electricity contracts, and market making scheme in VIOP energy derivatives. 

The meeting, held at the Turkish Capital Markets Association on June 30, 2015 was opened by Arkın Akbay, ETD Board Member and Turcas Enerji Holding Inc. Electricity & Gas Group Director. In his speech, Akbay talked about the joint efforts of Borsa İstanbul, ETD and Takasbank, touching upon the importance of the cooperation between intermediary institutions and energy companies for attracting increased liquidity from over-the-counter market to VIOP base load electricity futures contracts.

VIOP Group Manager Muammer Çakır delivered a presentation on VIOP. In his presentation, Çakır talked about the firsts of VIOP, trade volume and open interest records; the basic features of VIOP base load electricity futures contracts; VIOP’s efforts to increase the liquidity of the electricity contracts; the importance of counter-party risk for energy companies and the opportunities offered by VIOP for risk management; market making scheme based on revenue sharing for electricity contracts; and the joint efforts with institutions such as ETD and Takasbank for designing new electricity contracts.

Following the coffee and networking break, a Q&A session was held. In this session, the participants were able to get answers to their questions and discussed potential areas of cooperation.

Turkish Capital Markets Association Secretary General İlkay Arıkan gave the closing remarks, talking about the benefits of holding similar meetings that bring together energy companies and intermediary institutions.
