In accordance with the agreement signed between Türkiye İş Bankası and Borsa İstanbul, “İş Bankası Affiliates Index”, calculated for İş Portföy will henceforth be calculated by Borsa İstanbul

“İş Bankası Affiliates Index” (ISIST), aimed at calculating the price and revenue performance of Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş. affiliates traded on Borsa İstanbul will henceforth be calculated by Borsa İstanbul. The Index comprises 15 equities including Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş. and its affiliates, and will be calculated on a real time basis.

The agreement, allowing the calculation of the performance of Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş. group companies and offering investors the opportunity to invest in the performance of Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş. and its affiliates traded on Borsa İstanbul, was announced today in a bell-ringing ceremony held at Borsa İstanbul.

At the ceremony, Türkiye İş Bankası Deputy CEO İlhami Koç said that indices and exchange traded funds started being offered to investors in early 2000’s, adding, “The fund that we created in late 1990’s is a significant example for passive management approach in Turkey. At the time, we had to turn to abroad to create an index since we had no index calculators in Turkey. Now, we no longer have to get support from abroad; Borsa İstanbul calculates indices in cooperation with the market players. I think this is a critical phase since index funds, exchange traded funds based on passive management have been growing fast in the world as opposed to Turkey. We expect these figures to increase with the contributions of Borsa İstanbul”.

Borsa İstanbul CEO Tuncay Dinç said that the market capitalization of İş Bankası and its 15 publicly traded affiliates stands at US$ 17 billion as of June 12, compared to the total market capitalization of US$ 223 billion. Dinç went on to say, “The traded value of these companies was US$ 27 billion in 2014. In consideration of the total traded value of US$ 399 billion of the Equity Market for the year, we can see that İş Bankası group companies significantly contributed to the liquidity of the Market. This shows the importance of calculating the performance of İş Bankası and its affiliates. The Index that Borsa İstanbul started to calculate for İş Portföy will contribute to the awareness of domestic and foreign investors about İş Bankası and its affiliates and the funds monitoring this Index will allow investors to participate in the performance of these companies”.
