The 5th of the Turkish Capital Markets Summit Begins
11/16/2021

Turkish Capital Markets Summit 2021 is held between November 16-17. Korkmaz Ergun, the CEO of Borsa İstanbul delivered a welcoming lecture at the Summit.

In his address at the welcoming lecture, Korkmaz Ergun, the CEO of Borsa İstanbul made the following remarks:

“Esteemed Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mr. President of the Finance Office, Mr. Chairman of the Capital Markets Board, dear participants; I respectfully greet you all on behalf of Borsa İstanbul.

As Borsa İstanbul, we exert a lot of effort to make our companies and investors benefit from the opportunities of our capital markets. To summarize under three points, we aim to provide more resources to our companies by increasing IPO's, we aim to strengthen our corporate communication with foreign investors, and moreover we continue to improve and diversify our financial services and products.

Having these thoughts in mind, we would like to kindly invite companies, the keystone of the growth of our country, that is, companies that manufacture, invest, export and create jobs, to Borsa İstanbul as they can finance their growth through capital markets. As Borsa İstanbul, we have changed our business model this year. We are no longer an exchange that reviews the application after the application process. We are a Stock Exchange that provide support and solutions to the problems our companies have before the application, at the decision stage and the preparation stage. Our goal is to ensure that every year, a large number of our big companies that contribute to the growth of our country finance their investments through IPOs. Because the “long-term cheap TRY” that our companies need for their investments is only available in the capital markets.

We also start initiatives to strengthen our corporate communication with foreign investors. We actively take part in international organizations. Correspondingly, we have served on the Board of the World Federation of Exchanges and all sub-working committees. Moreover, we carry out the general secretariat of the Exchanges Forum within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Furthermore, we continue to diversify the financial services and products that we offer. To cite an example, we started to calculate 3 new gold indices as of July, 7. Thus, more institutional investors provided with the opportunity to invest in Gold Bonds and Gold Denominated Lease Certificates issued by our Treasury. On September 17, we launched Platinum and Palladium futures after the gold and silver. On October 1, we changed the methodology of the sustainability index valuation. We have raised the criteria for entering the index. On October 22, we launched USDTRY futures contracts with physical delivery. As such, we have enabled our real sector companies to manage their currency risk on a secure and transparent platform with a more competitive price advantage via this product, which we will physically issue in USD at maturity and which has the possibility of flexible maturity. We started to calculate 5 participation Indices on November 12. We will ensure that mutual funds will be established based on these new participation indices that we have calculated, and we will also develop futures contracts.

During the pandemic that storming throughout the world, we, as Borsa İstanbul, have continued to provide all our services uninterruptedly. As a sector, we have actually passed a very serious test, we have quickly been able to keep abreast of the changing conditions. I would like to extend my thanks to all of our intermediary institutions for their devotedness. Once again, I wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives during the pandemic.

I would like to thank everyone who organized the summit, especially the managers and employees of the Turkish Capital Markets Association, as well as those who contributed to the event. I would like to express my deepest respect.”
