The Bell Ceremony organized on the occasion of Borsa İstanbul's 150th Anniversary was held with the presence of our President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN.
On the occasion of Borsa İstanbul’s 150th Anniversary, the Opening Bell Ceremony held to mark the 150th Anniversary of Borsa İstanbul was attended by President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Numan KURTULMUŞ, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet ŞİMŞEK, Former Prime Minister Tansu ÇİLLER, Chairman of the Capital Markets Board of Türkiye İbrahim Ömer GÖNÜL, Founding Chairman of Istanbul Stock Exchange Muharrem KARSLI, Borsa İstanbul Chairperson Erişah ARICAN and Borsa İstanbul CEO Korkmaz ERGUN. The 150th Anniversary Bell rang simultaneously with the Borsa İstanbul campus at the 1750-year-old Aizanoi Ancient City, the world's first stock exchange located in Çavdarhisar District of Kütahya Province, with the participation of the Governor of Kütahya and the District Governor of Çavdarhisar.
Borsa İstanbul further announced today that along with BIST100, it has started to calculate BIST500 Index, which will include 500 companies of Borsa İstanbul.
Delivering her opening remarks at the Bell Ceremony, Borsa İstanbul A.Ş. Chairperson Erişah ARICAN stated the following:
The Galata Stock Exchange, whose foundations were laid in the Ottoman Empire, was renamed the Dersaadet Securities Exchange in 1873 and "Abidin Pasha", the mutasarrıf (governor) of Varna, was appointed as the government commissioner.
On August 7, 2023, we launched the project we call BISTECH 3.0 as a big step to foster the financial technological infrastructure by ensuring the development and continuity of our markets with innovative steps.
As Borsa İstanbul, we extend our efforts to nurture the knowledge and experience of young people and investors. To this end, we commence BISTECH Data Platform that will provide both real-time and historical value-added data.
Moreover, we launch BISTECH Borsa İstanbul Technology Academy as a significant step to train human resources in financial technology. Thanks to this project which includes theoretical and practical training programs for university students, we aim to train young people in the field of financial technology.
We are also pleased to launch the Venture Capital Market, which supports the entrepreneurship ecosystem for companies that are considering an IPO in the future but need to access the financing they need for growth at an earlier stage.
On our 150th anniversary, we are more than glad to share with you another significant development. Along with our benchmark index BIST100, we launch BIST500 Index today, which will include 500 companies of Borsa İstanbul.
In the Turkish Century, we will continue to preserve 100 years of legacy with 150 years of experience.
