Borsa İstanbul’s Activities in Pakistan

Borsa İstanbul held a series of events in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad and the commercial and financial center Karachi between April 20 and 22.

As part of the events organized jointly by the Karachi Stock Exchange and Borsa İstanbul, visits were paid to the capital markets institutions and leading companies of Pakistan, discussing the possible cooperation on the capital markets. The delegation also visited the senior executives of Pakistani capital markets institutions, leading companies, and Pakistan Minister of State and Board of Investment Chairman.

On the first day of the program, a visit was paid to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SCEP) by a delegation headed by Borsa İstanbul Executive Vice President Dr. Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz and Karachi Stock Exchange CEO Nadeem Naqvi. The delegation was hosted by SCEP Chairman Zafar Hijazi, and the parties evaluated the exchange of information and cooperation efforts. Borsa İstanbul Executive Vice President Dr. Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz stated the importance of technological conversion and competition for exchanges, adding that Borsa İstanbul’s strategic partnership with NASDAQ OMX is a milestone. SCEP Chairman Zafar Hijazi emphasized the Turkish capital markets’ experience on change, touching upon the importance of the cooperation initiated between the capital markets institutions of the two countries.



Following the visit to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SCEP), a meeting was organized with Islamabad Securities Exchange, participated by Chairman Moin M. Fudda, board members and other officials. At the meeting, the possible areas of cooperation were discussed. Moin M. Fudda said that Borsa İstanbul sets a good example before them, and it will be beneficial to share know-how with Borsa İstanbul. Dr. Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz, on the other hand, stated that in order to add to the efficiency and competitive power of the Pakistani capital markets, the securities exchanges and other organized markets in operation could merge under a single roof similar to that of Borsa İstanbul.

A visit was also paid to the Pakistan Minister of State and Board of Investment Chairman Dr. Miftah Ismail and members of the Board. At the meeting, Dr. Ismail mentioned the close friendship and brotherhood of the two countries, stating that the deep historical friendship will reflect in the economy through concrete steps, and this so far neglected potential will display itself in the trade volume between Pakistan and Turkey. Ismail expressed his pleasure for the visit of Borsa İstanbul delegation, underlining the importance of the cooperation between the capital markets institutions of the two countries in realizing the potential.



BORSA İSTANBUL TO MARKET KARACHI STOCK EXCHANGE DATA

A bell-ringing ceremony was held at the Karachi Stock Exchange, which attracted great attention from the Exchange officials and the local press of Pakistan. The activities carried out within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two Exchanges were evaluated during the meetings held through the day. Special attention was given to issues including the dissemination of Karachi Stock Exchange data by Borsa İstanbul, cross-listing, trading of indices on both markets, and Borsa İstanbul Private Market. The parties signed an agreement for the dissemination of Karachi Stock Exchange data by Borsa İstanbul. Within this framework, Borsa İstanbul will offer all market data required to trade on Karachi Stock Exchange to all investors worldwide simultaneously.



PAKİSTAN COMPANIES WELCOME BORSA İSTANBUL OFFICIALS

Borsa İstanbul delegation visited well-established Pakistani companies operating in various sectors, including Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited, Arif Habib Group, Gul Ahmed Group, and Lucky Cement Limited to discuss public offering opportunities on and advantages offered by Borsa İstanbul. Borsa İstanbul officials informed the companies on Borsa İstanbul markets, advanced technology, wide investor base, and the opportunities offered for Pakistani companies. The delegation also shared detailed information about the public offering process in Turkey and being traded on Borsa İstanbul, emphasizing the advantages for Pakistani companies.

“BORSA İSTANBUL IPO CONFERENCE” ATTRACTS GREAT ATTENTION

Borsa İstanbul also held a “Borsa İstanbul IPO Conference” in Pakistan. Borsa İstanbul Marketing and Sales Director Adnan Serhat Görgün delivered a presentation entitled “Public Offering in Turkey and the Opportunities offered by Borsa İstanbul for Pakistani Companies” for the senior officials of 50 companies. Following the presentations of Pakistan-based companies, Adnan Serhat Görgün and Borsa İstanbul Marketing Assistant Specialist Cevdet Bayhan answered the participants’ questions. In his closing remarks, Adnan Serhat Görgün emphasized their pleasure for the warm welcome and said that the cooperation between the two countries will strengthen.
